A Sight For Sore Pterygiums
‘Toblob’ is a slick 19-minute cut of two Gold Coast gentleman shredders.
Liam O’Brien is currently number #5 on the Challenger Series. Liam featured in the Rottnest event this year, finishing third as a wildcard after beating Filipe Toledo, Jeremy Flores, Julian Wilson, and Seth Moniz.
Describing himself as a “poor man’s Ethan Ewing” in a 2019 interview with Stab, Liam is softly-spoken, preferring to let his surfing do the talking. With two CS events remaining, we may be hearing a lot more from ‘discount’ Ethan Ewing.
Toby Mossop is not a competitive surfer, but regularly puts out quality edits such as Planned Obsolescence which he released in April of 2020, where he pulled into the most incredible backdoor pit somewhere in Indonesia (see below).
Liam and Toby are old mates from the same hometown who decided to work on a film over the Covid break.
“We started slowly gathering clips about a year ago. We didn’t film religiously or have a set plan. We’d just shoot when the waves were fun around home impromptu style. The vast majority of the clip is just on the Gold Coast. There’s also a little bit of stuff from some different parts of Aus and I was lucky enough to film in Mexico and the USA while overseas for an event,” says Liam.
Will we be seeing more from the duo?
“We will try to do something again when the world sorts itself out! But for now, I’m really hoping Lob nails it in the QS events overseas so he can qualify for the tour. He has worked so hard for it and he definitely would be able to hold himself against the best in the world,” says Tobs.
