A Quick Dose Of Central American Shreddery With Carlos Muñoz
Hacks, pits, and punts at one of the most consistent beachbreaks in the world.
Costa Rica is home to many renowned surf spots, but Playa Hermosa is the most consistent among them.
Perhaps that’s why Costa Rica’s highest-ranked professional surfer, Carlos Muñoz (#35 on the 2018 QS), spends the majority of his home time training along Hermosa’s powerful and expansive sandbars.
At roughly five miles in length, Hermosa sucks in all of the South Pacific’s energy and turns it into punchy wedges, walls and everything in between, the shape of waves depending on a variety of factors including swell angle and period, tide and wind, and how the sandbars are set-up at any given moment.
The conditions rarely drop below chest-high at Playa Hermosa, meaning there’s always a fun (and uncrowded) spot to be found along the stretch, and Carlos is consistently in the premier zone.
