If Jaws Is The Best “Big Wave” In The World, Then Who Is Its Master?

Billy Kemper and Kai Lenny stake their claim.

A lot of guys charge Jaws. Some girls do too. But over the last 24 months, nobody has done more to separate themselves from the herd like Billy Kemper and Kai Lenny.

Kemper’s set himself like a bare-knuckle, back-alley brawler that’s simply tougher, stronger and wants it more than anyone. In this new “Sessions” edit from Red Bull Surfing he rides what he’s now famously labeled as the best wave of his life. That’s no small statement considering the dude’s won the Jaws comp four times and dedicated his existence to dominating the place.

Then there’s Lenny, who just called Jaws “the best mega ramp for surfing.” He’s right there with Kemper when it comes to taking off steep and deep and pulling in, but it’s his game in straps that’s mind blowing. Drawing from his experiences on kite boards and windsurf boards, he’s spinning, hopping and bouncing all over the place. It takes what Maui’s original Strapt crew was doing in the ‘90s and taking it into the 21st Century. Air rotations into the left? It’s insane even if you’re not a fan of the tow assist. He makes it look like a playful day at Hookipa.

Red Bull goes deep with Kemper and Lenny in this latest edit, highlights a day at Jaws that pushed some serious barriers.
