The 30-year old is a certified right point clinician, and the above 20-minute film is just a reminder.

Though his return to the CT has been uncharacteristically inconsistent, he’s still 9th in the world with an event win to his name — and he’d probably be higher had he not narrowly lost the most exciting heat of the year.

“Filipe is a ghost. No way you’ll see him freesurfing before a contest,” said Hayden Garfield recently. “That guy waxes up brand new boards and paddles out and gets nines. Every event that I go to shooting for Ryan Miller, getting a photo of Filipe freesurfing is like the holy grail. If we get a photo of him outside of an event, it’s like a miracle.”
