WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow responds to Gabriel Medina
“Actually, like, first of all, that was a really bad call for the comp. We waited like 10 days, we extended two days to get waves like this, and I think KP (commissioner Kieren Perrow) didn’t do a really good job. I hope he can do better. And second was the interference. One day I […]
“Actually, like, first of all, that was a really bad call for the comp. We waited like 10 days, we extended two days to get waves like this, and I think KP (commissioner Kieren Perrow) didn’t do a really good job. I hope he can do better. And second was the interference. One day I will try to understand this new rule. And the third, is uh, next time Glenn (Hall) says ‘Fuck you’ to me, I’ll teach him some -” – Gabriel Medina
What a day it’s been at the Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast. Among various other entertaining moments that certainly don’t come around often, let alone by the handful on one day, was the Gabriel Medina and Glenn ‘Micro’ Hall controversy this morning.
In their round three heat, Micro was leading and in priority, when Gabs scratched into a wave on the inside. Micro, paddled for it, Gabs pulled out the back (very close to Micro, but whether or not they made contact is unclear), and Micro failed to complete the takeoff. They exchanged some words, which according to Micro consisted of Gabs telling him to calm down, and according to Gabs consisted of Micro telling him to get fucked.
Gabriel bagged another mid-seven and would’ve won the heat, were it not for the interference he was dealt after the incident.
Later, Gabs unleashed on the webcast, which you can read right up top there. Which brings us to WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow’s response to Gabriel’s outburst:
“This is professional surfing’s biggest stage, the stakes are high and there is no shortage of passion. Gabriel’s post-heat interview was not worthy conduct of an athlete at this level and the league has engaged in discussions with him and will take further action if necessary.”
Word is, the League will deal with this once competition is wrapped for the day. Gabs might not be in for the best evening.
