Would You Like To Watch Joel Parkinson, Balaram Stack, Craig Anderson, And A Bunch Of Portuguese Tube Shooters Pig Out Tomorrow?
The Capitulo Perfieto, powered by Billabong, is on for Saturday.
‘Tis the golden era of the specialty event.
We’ll start by pumping our own book with Stab High and Surf100 (big news on that front coming soon). But then you’ve got the Vans Pipe Masters. The Quik Fest. The Padang Cup. Natty Selection, anyone? The list goes on.
And let’s be honest — each one of ’em is a win for surfing.
But the Capitulo Perfeito is one of the OGs. Coming into its 11th edition, the brief to the invitees hasn’t changed since the first event: Show up on the best day of the year and stuff yourself inside waves.
The event has also jumped from Supertubos to Nazaré, but since 2018, it’s found a home base of Carcavelos.
The concept is to get an internationally renowned collective of tube shooters and see how the best locals stack up against them. This year’s invitees are:
Lucas Chumbo, Balaram Stack, Bruno Santos, Victor Bernardo, Guilherme Fonseca, Pedro Calado, Craig Anderson, João Guedes, Miguel Blanco, Nic von Rupp, Cam Richards, Noah Beschen, Pedro Boonman, Rob Machado, Santiago Graça, Tiago Stock, and a mystery surfer who’ll be announced soon. Not for nothing, but rumors suggest this person won (at least one) World Title sometime in the 2010s.
There’ll also be a four-person women’s heat feat. World Junior champ (and local) Francisca Veselko, along with Camila Cardoso, Mafalda Lopes, and last year’s deadly CT wildcard Yolanda Hopkins.
The Forecast: Well overhead. Offshore. Spitting tubes.
And the format?
It’s like a normal contest with four-person heats, except you can’t lose in the first round. If you try, you’ll be sent to the repechage — so you’ll at least have the chance to inspect a few more gutters.
Turns are cute. Airs are even cuter. But you’re only getting a serious score if you get tubbed.
The event should start around 8 AM local time. If you’re in Aus, you’ll be able to watch the morning’s action (it starts at 7 PM in Sydney). If you’re in the US, you should be able to catch both a decent snooze and the finals (it starts at midnight in LA but will run all day local time).

Fun fact: Ya boy will be doing some English commentary.
The event is powered by Billabong Europe, who’ve been doing a lot of work to support people standing inside waves this year. They’ve also got a Sam Piter SEOTY entry (we’ve seen a preview and ohhh la la).
There’s 50k EUR pumped into the prize purse here, so sending is guaranteed.
Bora.
