Watch Live: The Final Six Heats Of The Rip Curl GromSearch International Final
Who’s the best U16 surfer in the world?
The average age of a world champion surfer is around 26 for males and 25 for females.
Want to see who’ll likely be vying for a title in 2035?
The Rip Curl GromSearch will crown its international champions today at Santosha in Capbreton, France. The event has been running since 1999 and counts everyone from Caity Simmers to Gabs Medina as its former champs. Of note: 60% of CT surfers have formerly won a GromSearch event.
Also of note: The waves are kinda cooking today.
Yesterday, we saw a no-loser seeding round straight into head-to-head quarterfinals. The peak moment of the day came when Arthur Villar got revenge on 2x Stab High Bottlerockets champ Loci Cullen with a last-minute rev into the flats. Arthur will now face Portugal’s Jaime Vaselko, who dropped the highest total of the quarters. Strangely, both of them are tight with Italo.
On the women’s side, Australia’s Eliza Richardson dropped the highest score of the day yesterday with an 8.73 and South Africa’s Emily Jenkinson was right behind her with an 8.
Here are today’s matchups in full:
Girls
Heat 1: Emily Jenkinson vs Carol Bastides
Heat 2: Talia Tebb vs Eliza Richardson
Boys
Heat 1: Ocean Lancaster vs Putu Aditya
Heat 2: Jaime Veselko vs Arthur Vilar
Two of those surfers are four waves away from becoming the GromSearch’s 2025 Champs.
