Watch Live: Finals Days At The Burleigh Single Fin Classic
Watch the livestream, or take the scenic route up to the hill.
Good things happen in Burleigh Heads. Good surfing things. The venue has provided us with some of the most entertaining surf comps over the past year.
Back in April, the Australian Boardriders Battle’s club-warfare format had us wondering if, as a collective, we’ve been getting surf comps entirely wrong all these years.
In May, thanks to a cyclone-induced sand pillage at Snapper, the WSL decided to skip 20 minutes up the highway to the Gold Coast’s second-most famous right. And what did we get? Julian Wilson, fired up like we’ve never seen him, flipping off the crowd, the rocks, the judges, the Brazilians. Pandemonium in the natural amphitheater. Easily the most charged final in years.
And now, months later, we’ve got the Burleigh Single Fin Classic. Just halfway through, and it’s already handed us moments that’ll linger in the memory banks long after the event’s forgotten, perhaps none more beautiful than Stab’s own Ethan Davis, putting in the performance of his young life, summoning every ounce of passion, life force, and energy he’s got to finish dead last in his opening heat. Pray for him.
Today, thanks to Billabong, the event’s getting the proper broadcast treatment, with comms from Jed Smith and Chris Binns. Right now, Creed McTaggart and Eithan Osborne are in the water. There’s a little easterly swell running. Watch a delightful mix of heritage craft, World Champs, CT stars, Stab High winners, booze, live bands, DJs, and, as Vaughan Blakey put it, “a Mardi Gras of pee-yewer Aussie character and tradition.”
