Stab High Triple Header In NYC

Hitting the city for a Nathan Kostechko art show, Rockaway grom comp, and Episode 2 watch party

The second episode of Vans Stab High Indonesia, presented by Monster Energy (VSHIPBME), made its online debut on Thursday, November 4.

Nathan Kostechko, his lady Charlotte McKinney, and his original VSHIPBME paintings.

While those of you scattered across the globe indulged on YouTube or on our new Stab Premium App (Download now on your smart tv and devices), we were in New York spreading the gospel through a triple-header of events.

The Flower Shop throttling.

To kick things off, Nathan Kostechko adorned the walls of The Flower Shop in Manhattan with his collection of VSHIPBME paintings for a night of “Oohing” and “Ahhing.” Fans of surf, art, and culture came together for the night to take a crack at the infamous leopard pool table and connect with the artist. Some sneaky individual(s) with sticky fingers even decided to peel off with a painting, to which Nate said, “Whoever stole one of the paintings, I give you an ‘A’ for effort. Hope you’re enjoying the painting.”

Now Loading: Rockaway groms

After a brief intermission, the team made its way to Rockaway Beach for Rounds 2 and 3 of the New York run. First up, a VSHIPBME-inspired surf contest — or rather a jam session — for local groms aged 16 and under. The goal? Get radical. Get progressive. Do something that gets our official judges Micky Clarke, Pat Schmidt, and Jeff Anthony excited. The prize? A one-hour private session at Skudin Surf at American Dream for the boys winner. A one-hour private session at Skudin Surf at American Dream for the Ladybirds winner.

Yeah, that New Jersey wavepool.

If you don’t want the judges to miss you, get a pink board.

With rippable waves in 1-3 ft range, the kids did what kids do — bolted into the water and threw a couple shakas. Congratulations to Beau and Tatiana for taking out the expression session and winning private sessions at Skudin Surf at American Dream.

Winner winner, private wavepool dinner.

Around 7:30pm, Episode 2 of VSHIPBME took over the sights and sounds at Rockaway Brewing Company just down the street from the lineup. The committed crowd of New York surfers stayed fixed on the screen for some 51 minutes of viewing. You can do the same and watch the latest episode here.

The future of Vans Stab High.

For those of you in Australia, Episode 3 of VSHIPBME will premiere on Thursday, November 10, at Surfboard Empire Nobby’s on the Gold Coast. For those of you in Bali, Episode 3 of VSHIPBME will premiere on Friday, November 11, at Manu Uluwatu.

Keep scrolling for a helluva Stab High time in New York:

The Mayor of New York, Balaram Stack, in attendance.
Pat Schmidt, Micky Clarke, and Rip sharing secret spots.
Tortured artist or clever cartoonist…probably somewhere in between.
Cheers to that.
How many Modelos until they all look the same?
Stab High jawbreakers or pool balls?
Ancient sorcery at play here.
I mean, we are at The Flower Shop.
Ian Crane, former Vans Stab High champion and lover of good times.
Shady business going down.
Even the pool table is wrapped in Vans Stab High by Nathan Kostechko.
Smile in the foreground, bottom turn in the back.
Twinning from the smile up top to the camoflauge down below.
New York staple Billy Grand on the ones and twos.
Thor Larsen, Seth Conboy, and a couple West Coast blow-ins.
Cold drinks and warm smiles. We’ll call it a good evening with friends.
Expression session pop-up at 67th Street, Rockaway Beach.
Talking expression session strategy.
New York groms are as committed as they come.
“Head-high and barreling”
Go vert or go home.
Sneaky inside corner bowl.
Regulators, regulating.
She might look friendly, but you wouldn’t wanna draw her in a heat.
Short period expression session in full force.
Challenger Series Class of ’29
We dare you to have this much fun surfing knee-high wind chop.
Local beer and original vinyl, not a bad combo.
Sit back, relax, and watch some huge punts.
Party favors = big shakas
Cold beverages and good company.
Smiling faces everywhere you look.
“Hey, whats up man… did you see Sierra’s air?”
Hopefully, we get to see this big smile on a future iteration of Vans Stab High.
Free snuggles over here…
…and good jokes over here.
New Jersey wavepool won’t know what hit it
More stoke than Jamie O’Brien and Ben Gravy combined.
