Many of surfing’s early-days air shows featured competitors jousting in waist-high shorebreak.

We couldn’t be more grateful for those events. They broke ground, and set the path for the rest of us to follow. We’ve followed it a long way — specifically, to Lakey Peak, Indonesia for the 2022 edition of Vans Stab High, Presented By Monster Energy.

Last month (remember this?), we brought 28 men and 8 ladybirds together for 8 days. The conditions were very much not waist-high shorebreak. The Peak allows a surfer to choose their own adventure. You can get barreled, lean into a turn (hands behind the back, maybe?), and land a reel-worthy air on the same wave.

Or just save all that speed up and throw it at one section — no matter how menacing that section appears to be. Sounds like a winning strategy for Vans Stab High, but we’re not here to ruin any surprises.

Episode 1 of the four-part series will be released at 6 PM (PT) on Thursday, October 27. The next three will come on the following Thursdays, again at 6 PM (PT).

The stakes, by the way? $55k and a chance to compete at the Vans Pipe Masters.

Stay tuned.
