UNIV

Address: 1053 South Coast Hwy Encinitas CA Phone: 760 942 UNIV Website: univ-shop.com Facebook: univshop Twitter: @univbrand Instagram: @univ Curators: Tim Swart, James Addonizio Store bio: UNIV comes from the sleepy seaside town of Encinitas, California. Brought to you by some folks with a long history of creating and developing some other key brands over the past several years. UNIV is just simply authentic, offering a selection of uniquely selected footwear, apparel and accessories from iconic brands and its major draw is its own collection of California-made premium denim, t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, wovens and more. The shop is located just a stone’s throw from the iconic Swami’s surf break that The Beach Boys sang about. In addition to designing and making their own clothes, UNIV also operates a rotating event space, has numerous events, art shows, concerts and pop-up shops regularly and has a surfboard shaping room on site, to create unique surfcraft with a host of notable collaborators. UNIV has been in existence since 2006 and has done a limited release of wholesale product outside of its own shop, taken part in collaborations both here and in Japan. For Fall 2013 and beyond, the brand is expanding its wholesale distribution in the United States as well as Japan, Australia and Europe. The line has grown and consists of an expanded premium denim collection, chinos, wovens, knits, t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, jackets, hats, bags and accessories. The curious dachshund logo helps to establish UNIV’s classic yet quirky personality. The UNIV shop is a welcome hangout of surfers and style-seekers from all over Southern California and beyond. Its reputation amongst menswear, street culture and surf fans make it a regular stop when they’re in the area. UNIV’s eclectic interior is a tribute to the classic California aesthetic, and visitors will find everything from unique collectibles, books, surfboards and other things you may or may not need. WHATS ON THE JUKEBOX? T. Rex, Gordon Lightfoot, The Snakeskin Cowboys Top three local bars/restaurants? El Nopalito, Ale House, The Saloon. Local knowledge? Go surf Swamis, buy vinyl at Lou’s Records, drink lots of coffee (James Coffee is locally roasted and awesome). Check out univ-shop.com for more info!
