Tyler Wright is the World Number One. The conditions were unruly, the swell was confused and building throughout, but Miss Wright managed to kick off her 2016 Oi Rio Pro final campaign early with a solid combination of turns earning her an 8.67 and a lead that wouldn’t be matched. Securing a second scoring wave proved to be the majority of the battle for the Australian duo. Rival Sally Fitzgibbons, going for her third win at the Brazilian event, couldn’t find a decent back up ride in the challenging conditions allowing Tyler to claim her third CT victory of the year. Now, with a 3000-point lead over American Courtney Conlogue, Tyler has a Jeep yellow jersey in her possession.

“Over the past six months so many different things have happened and it’s kind of given me a bit of perspective and the way I want to run my career and surf my heats,” said Tyler on the game changing win. “I think it’s just the best I’ve ever felt full stop.”

“I was hoping for one more at the end, I could really feel that win. I put myself back in contention and I really loved the challenged today, but it’s Tyler’s day, so good on her.” – Sally Fitzgibbons (Photo: WSL/Smorigo)
