Yadin Nicol, darling of the Kai Neville era, former-CT surfer, and unapologetic West Australian gives us his honest picks for who is going to win Trestles. Place your bets here at Betonline.ag.

You can find Mikey C’s predictions below:

Gamble Ramble

This year marked my first proper foray into the world of legal surf betting.

I started out the season in immaculate form, raking in $465 on the first event, largely thanks to Betonline.ag’s generous odds on Moana Jones Wong.

I continued to win in subsequent events, but a little less each time, until I finally went negative in Brazil and J-Bay. Sad days.

An incredibly intensive effort at Teahupo’o saw me come up $57 in the black, bringing my season-long earnings to $907 — nearly tripling my boss’s initial $500 investment (thanks Birdy!).

Between the months of February and March, I made some incredibly rogue picks for 2022 World Title winners — some of these were purposeful, others the result of your author misreading what, exactly, he was betting on.

Funnily enough, some of those “accidental” bets may just pay off in the end. Here’s who I picked:
– $40 on Jordy Smith to win $800 LOST
– $10 on Zeke Lau to win $1000 LOST
– $10 on Gabriela Bryan to win $1000 LOST
– $25 on Bettylou Sakrua Johson to win $1000 LOST
– $10 on Courtney Conlogue to win $200 LOST
– $5 on Conner Coffin to win $1,000 LOST
– $20 on Steph Gilmore to win $240 TBD
– $10 on Johanne Defay to win $140 TBD
– $10 on Ethan Ewing to win $400 TBD
– $20 on Jack Robinson to win $320 TBD

Spend: $160
Earnings thus far: -$115

Then in May, just two days after the conclusion of the Margaret River Pro, I (very purposefully) placed $250 on Filipe Toledo to win the title at +300. If he takes the crown at Lowers, I’ll see a $750 payout.

– $250 on Filipe Toledo to win $750 TBD

Spend: $250
Total finals day spend: $410

But those bets are just to keep the lights on. The real fun comes in making individual heat bets throughout Finals Day. And I’ll be doing that live on stabmag.com — come hang out and maybe win a board!

When you subtract the $115 I’ve already lost on my world title picks, I’ve got $792 in season earnings to play with on Finals Day. The goal is to double that number or lose it all trying. Either way, it will have been an exciting year of surf betting.

Here are my picks for Round 1 of the men and women:

  • $100 on Kanoa Igarashi over Italo Ferreira at +125 to win $125
  • Waiting to see the conditions for the women

You can place your own wagers here.

And regardless of how my season pans out, I’m putting a preemptive Benjamin on Jordy for 2023.

Surely, it’ll be his year.
