Rip Curl’s annual tube shootout the Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang has been cancelled for 2015. The annual event was axed today after organisers decided to pass on the flawless four-to-five foot conditions on offer in order to maintain the “integrity” of the event; It’s about exquisite tuberiding, not pro surfers toying with head high waves. The expression session was held last night (when the accompanying photo’s were taken) but unfortunately the swell peaked overnight and the midday high tide today would have meant having to go on hold either side of the tide, and not enough waves to finish the event. This year’s cancellation will only be the second time in twelve years that the Rip Curl Cup hasn’t run. Rip Curl SE Asia Marketing Manager James Hendy said that, “It’s a hard call to make…but sadly there’s not much we can do, and everyone involved knows that it is in the Rip Curl Cup’s best interests in the long term.” You got to respect The Curl for standing by the brand of their event, but jeez, they aren’t having the most favourable time in Indo this season!
