A big flaccid salad.

Kelly Slater and Johanne Defay have been awarded the WSL mid-season wildcards. Miguel Pupo and Brisa Hennessy the season wildcards for 2024.

The Wildcards give Slater and Defay entry into Championship Tour (CT) events following the Mid-season Cut and entry into the first half of the 2024 CT season. The 2024 WSL Season Wildcards give Pupo and Hennessy entry into all competitions in the first half of the 2024 CT season.

By extension, Ramzi Boukhaim – Morocco’s first CT surfer will not get to blow viewers away with the BBSYES (best backside surfing you’ve ever seen) at J-Bay or any other event in 2023.

If Ramzi does gets an event wildcard it still won’t count for anything per the ruling that only past World Champs or Final 5 surfers can bank points as wildcards

Sophie McCullogh also had a great run in the two events she surfed – two fifths, went huge at Margarets (I thought she beat Carissa in the QF’s). Would love to have seen more from the Sunshine Coast Medical science student.

No elevating the youth? No add some spice to the pot? How about some sympathy for North African battler – who spent 11 years attempting to qualify, did so, and then injured his hoof before his first heat?

Nah, just more of the same.
