Stab Podcast: Oscar Berry On Making The CT And A Van Heist In Newcastle
Stace Galbraith sits down with the freshly minted CT surfer.
Mikey C’s gone to Laird knows where.
Stace takes over the podcasting gear, sitting across from Oscar Berry to talk about what happened this week in CS surfing.
Oscar is the next tour rookie out of Yamba, though the Gold Coast is where he’s been living since 16. He talks about Currumbin Alley, how it shaped him, and why he represents the local boardriders club rather than his hometown’s.
He finished his Challenger Series campaign at 8th. Twenty thousand, seven hundred and ten points. If numbers are your thing, you’re in luck. Stace and Oscar spend a fair amount of time in them.
They cover his CT qualification and the road to get there, his debut at Bells coming up, what separates the CT from the CS (speed, apparently), the strength of the Australian contingent on tour right now, and his Rookie of the Year picks.
Oh, and there’s also a good Alister Reginato yarn, which Oscar delivers second-hand. Reginato, who could hardly put together a CS heat this year, flew up from Phillip Island for the ABB comp at Burleigh. Drove overnight to Newcastle afterward. Slept in the back of his van. Had things stolen from it while he slept. Won the final contest of the season anyway. Is there even a moral to this story?
Aux it into your next hour-long drive.
