Stab Podcast: Mayhem vs. Gaga + El Sal Picks

The twin spectacles: Hollywood lawsuits and the WSL in El Salvador.

This week on the podcast: Hollywood lawsuits, baby. It’s been a while since surfing’s last jaunt through the glitzy streets of Tinseltown, but thanks to Matt Biolis, it’s finally back where it belongs. About damn time.

But it doesn’t belong. Biolis, as you’ve likely stumbled across by now, is serving Lady Gaga a legal slap for her audacious appropriation of the word “Mayhem.” Mayhem is for surfboards, not for the golden hills. As Will Smith once diplomatically put it, “keep yo name out my wife’s mouth.” Same goes for your labels, Hollywood. Hands off what’s not yours, and don’t make Buck say it again.

“I just don’t think it’s a coincidence,” Buck said. “I almost got the label tattooed above my naval. It means a lot to me, and I’m pissed at Lady Gaga.”

There was plenty on the site this week, but that’s all in the rearview now. Who’s got time for the past? In a few days, the WSL will stumble into Surf City, El Salvador, and here’s exactly what’s going to happen:

“Who’s going to win?” Asked Buck.

“Oh. It’s easy,” replied Mikey. “This will be the return of one Filipe Toledo.”

Buck’s crystal ball says Yago’s still running hot in El Sal. Nothing’s changing.

Things get a little murkier on the women’s side. Mikey pulls out a spreadsheet and starts crunching the numbers on Caroline Marks’ performance. Buck shrugs at the math and puts the house on her anyway.

For more highly questionable gambling advice, you’ll have to listen above.

Also on the table: How John John Florence turned Pipeline into a children’s zoo, Josh Kerr’s unlikely return to the Challenger Series, Tati’s mental break from the world tour, + more. Buckle up.
