We are thrilled to announce the release of Vans Stab High, Central America, presented by Monster Energy, with Episode 1 dropping on Thursday, July 22nd at 7 pm PST.

For those unfamiliar with the ingenious concept, Stab High is our competitive platform that provides a direct lens into all of surfing’s nooks and crannies.  As a surf contest held (mostly) in the air, Stab High aims to push aerial surfing to new heights while providing an open forum for a diverse and unique cast of characters.

While the contest began as a simple day-long trial for sticking the best aerial maneuver in a wavepool, it has blossomed into a two-week-long cultural smelting pot, featuring surfers from Japan, Jamaica, U.S.A, Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, Hawaii, Portugal, South Africa, and Costa Rica.

The chlorinated roots of Vans, Stab High, presented by Monster Energy have also found success in Mother Nature’s finest natural sources, with the latest installment breaching from Central America.

Vans Stab High, Central America, presented by Monster Energy was held over the course of 12 days in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica. Eighteen male surfers and six Vans Ladybirds used that time to land aerial maneuvers on both ‘Rights’ and ‘Lefts’, with their top wave going each direction being scored out of 50 for a maximum total score of 100.

These scores were provided by our esteemed panel of judges, which included Vans’ Nate Fletcher, Mikey February, Ainara Aymat as well as Stab’s Michael Ciaramella and Brendan Buckley.

“Stab High is a step in the right direction for surf contests,” says Nathan Fletcher. “It pushes surfers to land their most radical stuff. These guys and girls come here with a good attitude hoping to not only impress the judges, but their peers, all in the hopes of pushing surfing forward which to me is really cool.”

Vans Stab High, Central America, presented by Monster Energy will release episodically, with the first of 5 episodes being made available Thursday, July 22nd on YouTube. And yes, you will be able to watch the entire series for free. Check out the schedule below:
