Podcast: Who Will Be Gabriel Medina’s New Surf Coach?
Plus, learn what Kolohe really thinks about the impending WSL Finals Day.
If you’ve ever surfed Lowers, it’s unlikely that you’ve felt scared at the site of an impending set, no matter how big.
We can say matter of factly that this statement applies to self-proclaimed Lowers addict Kolohe Andino. For this week’s episode of The Drop, our Danny Johnson called up Kolohe to rouse his currently quarantined noggin into a titillating discussion where they cover everything from Leo Fioravanti’s construction-adjacent Sydney hotel room, the anxiety-laden text thread Kolohe was on when realizing they would be locked away for two weeks, and what he really thinks of the WSL Finals day. Kolohe brings up a fair point in saying: Lowers is just not treacherous enough to define the World Title, that’s just the bottom line.
Whatever your thoughts on this, listening to someone with Kolohe’s experience deliver strong, educated opinions is bound to widen your perspective on this little thing we call pro surfing.
Next up Danny chats with Mikey Ciaramella (Pron. Chí-ara-mella) on his dissection of the Gabriel Medina coaching situation. Does Charlie being out have anything to do with Gabby’s new beau? Who’s unfollowing who on Instagram? And is Jake Paterson coming out of retirement to lead Gabby to new competitive heights down under? Seeing as Gabriel has only made one final in 21 total Australian events, it’s just a matter of time until we learn who will be whistling for his next drop-in.
