Watch: Jesse Mendes And Mikey Wright Tussle In North Point Parking Lot!

Snaking snafu results in a couple pushes and board whaps, however no legitimate punches were thrown.

Oh the competition is getting fierce Down Unda! If not in the heats then at least in the morning freesurfs, where a supply/demand ratio of pumping pits does not suit the 50-odd surfers across both Tours.

Before yesterday’s competition kicked off, North Point had a few screamers coming across the reef, several of which were caught by Aussie mulletlord Mikey Wright. One such ride started with a drop-in by Brazilian CTer Jesse Mendes, but Mikey mitigated the issue by scooting around his Quiksilver teammate and sliding into a delectible double tube.

That wave led to an interesting moment in the parking lot, wherein Jesse confronted Mikey in a fairly aggressive manner, pushing him several times and sharing what one could assume to be harsh words, while Mikey held his ground but did not retaliate.

Please watch.

For further context, here’s Snake’s caption on the post: Interesting free surf session this morning before the event started. Word on the street is @jesse_mendes had waited all morning for the wave he dropped in on @mikeywright1 and Mikey had just had a set wave! No love lost by the looks! Hahaha. #oldschool #snaketalesraw #nikonp900

An interesting situation indeed. Assuming Mikey had just gotten a wave, and that Jesse had been respectfully waiting his turn, it could be argued that the Brazilian was justified in first burning and then confronting Mikey about the situation. However, most of the comments in Snake’s thread favor Mr. Wright.

Then Kelly Slater weighed in: @kimfeast_ looks like you and I when we met out there! Keyboard warrior opinion here…I’ve surfed with them both a lot. @mikeywright1 is possibly the biggest frother I’ve ever seen and forgets other people exist when it starts barreling. He knew what he was doing here outpositioning @jesse_mendes in a tricky and crowded lineup. Or maybe he was getting Jesse back for paddling me around the point in our heat at sunset years ago, haha. Whichever it is, I’m sure we’ll all look forward to their next heat together.

So, readers: armed with all of this data, what is your final conclusion?

Does being a wavehog make you deserving of drop-ins and pushes in the parking lot, or does being deeper give you an unalienable right to shoot the tube?

Also, had this turned into a legitimate brawl, who would have won?

Mikey is jacked and would probably fight like a feral dog but Jesse is Brazilian and so probably knows Jiu-Jitsu.

I love pro surfing!
