Breaking: Man Drowns Surfing Sydney’s Northern Beaches
A tragic incident this morning at Little Avalon.
On the first solid swell the East Coast has seen in a month, a man has drowned surfing at Little Avalon on Sydney’s Northern Beaches just prior to 9am this morning.
The 62 year old man named Bob, named Bob but formally unidentified, was reportedly surfing Little Avalon on low tide. It is believed that his legrope was hooked on a rock which held him underwater.
A group of surfers noticed him unconscious in the water near the rocks and pulled him up onto land before performing CPR until emergency services arrived. Unfortunately he was not able to be revived. Emergency operations are underway with a rescue helicopter, police and paramedics arriving at Avalon and closing off the southern region of the beach.
Our thoughts go out to Bob’s friends, family, and those there who witnessed the incident and attempted to rescue him this morning.
We will provide more information as it comes in.
