Kelly Slater injures foot at Cloudbreak; Ain’t out of Pipe yet

Two days ago Cloudbreak was eight-to-10 feet, groomed with light winds but cursed with the odd 12-foot wash-through. Just the chips Kelly Slater loves to gamble with. He’s been staying on Tavarua in Jon Roseman’s house before an eleventh hour arrival on the North Shore for the Pipe Masters. Stab understands on the morning of the swell Kelly was surfing with a camera mount on his board for Taylor Steele when he came unstuck from a shockwave in the barrel, and injured his foot. Coastalwatch are reporting Kelly has stressed a bone in the top of his foot, above the middle toe. Deciding not to surf the remainder of the swell, Kelly drove the ski into the lineup and even rescued a few people who were caught inside by another 12-footer. On Surfing World‘s Instagram post, which suggested Kelly’s title hopes may be over, the Floridian wrote: “I heard that’s a rumor. #NotTrue on the title race but foot is hurt.” You keep doing you, Kelly.
