When he’s not laying pipe deep beneath the oil-and-gas-rich seabed of Western Australia, Jay Davies is getting piped—sometimes over east, sometimes in Indo, sometimes right at home.
A swordsman of the highest order, Jay’s no stranger to Margies heroics. In 2015, he dusted Jack Robinson in the trials, then fed two 3x World Champs—Mick Fanning and Gabriel Medina—their lunch at the Box, en route to a Quarterfinal finish that still gets whispered about in dusty WA pubs.
Jay’s initial read on the forecast was grim, but a closer inspection prompted a retraction:
“Looks like next week’s gotten a lot better,” Jay voice-noted us.
“Looked like there was a big storm hitting, but now it’s just a solid 3m swell with northeast winds. Could be slightly too north… but also, it could be really nice conditions. It’s still a week out, so things could change. I said it looked fucked, but actually—could be some pretty good waves.”
