A few months back word got out that Shaun Manners and Billabong had parted ways.

Given that Shaun is one of Australia’s hottest young commodities, we were sure something was in the works. Mr. Manners hasn’t always been the belle of the ball, but since dropping his timeless hit ‘Blastoid’ at the end of 2018 followed by his infamous straighty in Rage 3, he’s been considered one of the most underrated, overperforming free surfers in the biz.

A newly revealed deal, which sees Chun joining Dion Agius and Taj Burrow as Globe’s only head-to-toe surfers, reflects just that.

Shaun said this about joining the team: “The first thing that caught my eye with Globe was their decision to set new standards for being ethical and sustainable. Their efforts to make a change really stood out. The family vibe Globe has is something else that made the decision easier. I’ve always wanted to be a part of a company that still is directed by its original founders. “

While he currently resides on the east coast, Shaun hails from WA. So, what does the best surfer ever to come from this region/current Stab In The Dark star have to say about his signing? In the words of fellow former Bong’ rider gone Globe-al, Taj Burrow:

“I first saw Shaun surfing in a couple of videos that Creed had sent to me and he’s like, ‘Oh you’ve gotta check out this kid, this young grom from West Oz, Shaun’. He had all the makings of a really, really good surfer from the first footage I saw of him. You could just tell. He had a little spice about him, but I just never knew that he would progress so fast in the next four or five years. Every year I feel like Shaun puts out the craziest edits of just about anyone out there, and he’s pretty fast become the most exciting freesurfer in the world. So it’s just been incredible to watch his progression and I think over the next five years, what we’ll see out of Shaun will be incredible. I mean he’s already landed the biggest air undoubtedly that anyone’s ever done and I know he’s hungry to get more crazy shit like that.”

It’s refreshing to be writing about a deserving surfer getting signed to a great company. Congrats to both parties on what we hope to be a long and happy communion.
