By now you’ve seen Mick Fanning’s Electric Acid Surfboard Test (episodes 1, 2, 3 and 4). If not, sorry, we just spoiled the results with that title. It’s still worth watching though, as the means are so much richer than the end.

Anyway…

Before anyone knew the winner, we held a premiere at Stab’s office in Oceanside, CA to celebrate a successful Acid Test and reveal Mick’s favorite board. At least one shaper from each of the final boards was in attendance, as was Mick and a bunch of the San Diego surf community. We ate Shootz Poke, drank Flying Embers and followed Peter Schroff’s every move. That guy’s always about do something memorable.

Enjoy some of the photos below, all taken by Kai Powers.

Shaper John Simon examines the channels in the broken DHD x Simon Jones creation. The curly haired gentleman to his left is Riley, who won the Reef sweepstakes. He spent his morning surfing with Mick and his evening at the premiere. He’ll also get a custom board from the Acid Test, a ton of Reef gear and a lifetime subscription to Stab Premium.
There’s a reason they’re waiting. A+ poke and fish tacos at Shootz in Oceanside.
Kuio Young and Tanner Gudauskas, probably talking about their preferred hair products.
1 in 5 kids in attendance preferred the extreme rocker of the Webber x Keogh craft.
The first Schroff is the deepest. Tanner and Shelby Gudauskas meet Peter Schroff. “That was honestly a special moment,” said Tanner.
Keeping warm and fuzzy with the Embers.
I think this was just after Mick revealed that Schroff had pinched his nipple earlier in the night.
And we had a party in Oceanside to celebrate.
“Harmonize with me,” Peter Schroff said to John Simon during the Q&A, before breaking into an a cappella song. “Leeeet’s keeeeeep surf cuuuullllture…” He put the mic in front of Simon. “…alive?” The crowd roared. (Look at Mayhem’s face back there.)
Art n’ commerce.
We watched ep 3, and then an abridged version of the finale, since it wasn’t completely finished yet.
The winners are revealed.
If you ever get the chance to hug Mick Fanning (with consent!), do it. He’s a great hugger. Matt Biolos and Donald Brink, enveloped in victory.
Celebration at Stab HQ in Oceanside.
Mick’s a softy, so getting to meet Donald, after all the effort he put into making the Mick’s Tape and creating the Fanning Pack, was a treat.
