DHD’s Gold Coast Factory Engulfed In Flames
The fire which started at 9am this morning is now under control, but damage may be extensive.
Shortly after 9am this morning—Boxing Day in Australia—a blaze erupted in Burleigh Head’s industrial complex. It has been confirmed that one of the two factories damaged in the fire is Darren Handley’s factory, DHD surfboards.
At this stage it isn’t clear how extensive the damage is, but judging from the size of the flames in videos doing the rounds on social media it is significant. Fortunately, the fire is now extinguished and under control, but residents are being advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to the large plumes of smoke caused by the fire.
Fire investigators are due to arrive at the factory tomorrow morning to determine what caused the fire.
Here’s hoping that the factory and stock, or at least some of it, is salvageable for one of the world’s best surfboard shapers.
We will update this story as more information comes to light.
