Ozzie Wright, whip-huck at Palm Beach, Oz
Ozzie Wright has always drawn his own lines in surfing. Artistically, stylistically, fashion-wise, Oz has always done his own thing and, quite often, done it before anyone else. Ozzie Wright has always drawn his own lines in surfing. Artistically, stylistically, fashion-wise, Oz has always done his own thing and, quite often, done it before anyone else. Actually, there ain’t much y’can say about Oz in that regard that hasn’t already been said. So we’ll leave it there.
So it shouldn’t surprise to learn this: Late last year (yike! We break our own 24-hour rule!), a tow session was going down at Palm Beach. Davey Cathels’ dad was on the ski, with Davey, Dan Karren, Tom Salveson and some other pals taking turns on the rope. Ozzie turned up, sat on the beach watching the session for 40 minutes, then paddled out, whipped into his first wave and blasted the monstrous huck y’see here. Then, he went in and wasn’t seen again. Show up and blow, then disappear as quickly as he came. That’s how Oz rolls. Even if it ain’t a land, and even if it’s a little old (by the standards of the internets), this is the kinda shot that Stab couldn’t let rot in a digital archive.
