Opening Ceremony at the Volcom Fiji Pro, Tavarua

Unfortunately for keen observers of competitive surfing, and especially when that competitive surfing takes place at Cloudbreak, there is a second lazy day at the Volcom Fiji Pro.  A quick breeze through social media, or more specifically the Stab-a-gram, reveals an underlying tone of absolute excitement swirling in the top 34. Excitement to be in tropical paradise with swell on the way. Before Dream Tour surfers could have at Cloudbreak and Restaurants in jerseys, they had to sit down for the opening ceremony (but, it ain’t a chore!). This includes local song and, more importantly, the drinking of kava, a local made drink (no one is exempt from this). Which then leads to some more beverages and next thing there’s a pool party a-happening and everybody’s invited! That ain’t so bad, huh? Here we find, seated from left to right, Mick Fanning, Kieren Perrow, Travis Logie and Taj Burrow, the latter of whom sports newly-acquired birthday haircut, during a more tame part of the afternoon.
