Noa Deane, straight but tweaked frontside air, Rocky Rights
For two weeks last December the photographer Peter “Bosko” Boskovic was employed by the clothing and surfboard brand Rusty to photograph their surfers which include Josh Kerr, Jay Davies and Noa Deane, pictured here. The location of their beachfront rental at Rocky Point meant the gang had ringside seats to the famous, but very popular, wave and were therefore enabled to choose sessions when the crowd was at its most friendly and the waves at their most elevated. “This was one of those classic Hawaiian days. The water was sparkling and clear and we’d timed it so there weren’t many people out,” says Bosko. “I drifted down to the rights, almost down to Gas Chambers, and was anticipating airs from behind so I could squeeze in the palm trees. It can be tricky shooting from behind because you don’t know where the air is going to be popped. And Noa can be tricky to shot, not in a bad way, a good way. You don’t know what he’s going to do next. He makes surf photography challenging but very fun.”
