Here, same trip, we see Mitch Coleborn, also of the DC shoe team, day one, in bland midday light, submitting to an Indonesian stitch-up. The photographer recalls: “Fresh off the plane and Coleborn was ready to have a sniff. Waves had been blown to shit in the afternoon but he was keen to wash away the airport grease. It was low tide and dumpy on the reef. Tons of paddling and even more duck diving. One wave landed right on Mitch’s head and keen not to break his board he refused to bail it. The wave flipped him on his back and had his way with him on the reef. It required the local doctor to ride her scooter out to the hotel and quite a few stitches.” Miller has a theory about Coleborn’s run of injuries since Fiji. “Ever since Coleborn made the highlight reel by sticking it to Slater at the Volcom Pro it has been a downward slide in the injury department. A month ago he was in Indo and did his whole back on the reef. Then last week in South Africa he got a bit of staph infection cut out of his foot. Now this cut and grinding across the reef.” Hoo!
