Been digging the Euro leg thus far? France, rolling into Portugal, and all the trimmings in between have been entertaining, to say the least! The biggest news of late was Kelly Slater’s round two loss (and Mick Fanning’s victory) at Peniche, which now leaves Mick in a good spot, title-wise. He must make the semis to hold the biggest cup.
But while Kelly struggled to get inspired by conditions, there’s one man in particular who’s been turning on the bright lights outside of the jerseys. Our photographer on this occasion, Ryan Miller, picks up: “I’ve been in Europe for just about 20 days now, drank just about 20 bottles of red wine and then saw Julian Wilson stomp just about 20 of these today. Is this guy f’real? This wave is so shit that the other quarter of the WCT out there today could barely land a chop hop. Look how small and crap this wave is and where he is able to get his board. Baffling.”
Jules won here last year. He digs the place, and understandably. Bet on this man.
