Jordy Smith, round three Superman, Bells Beach
Say what y’will about the superman, but at least it’s honest. Jordy Smith, regardless of the frowns the dubs-grips frog-kick might encourage, won’t ever stop doing them. And why should he, when they get him through heats? Yesterday at the Rip Curl Pro, Bells Beach, Jordy surfed a heat against fellow South-African Travis Logie. The 10th heat of round three, if we’re talking specifics. After pasting the superman y’see pictured here, Jordy, who’s currently number three in the world (post-Snapper), sealed Trav’s fate and finished on a combined total of 15.53. And the kid’s good run didn’t end there. As of writing, Jordy put together a 17.27 combined total against CJ Hobgood in round five. He’ll now face Joel Parkinson in the quarters – another step in a slowly-emerging rivalry between the two (which the Gold Coast Bulletin did all in their power to perpetuate during the Quik Pro.) Who’ll win this time?
