Craig Anderson, pictured here, is one of the few surfers who run short-arm steamers with booties (Chippa Wilson, another). It seems a paradoxical thing to do, but some surfers really dig the traction of a good set of booties. Hells, if it means Craig can throw steeze-heavy backside throws like this, then so be it. See that tanker out there? Craig’s hometown of Newcastle is home to the largest coal exporting harbour in the world, so it’s rare that the horizon ain’t littered with coal-bearing boats. And, from a surf-photog’s viewpoint, it can actually make for some good background.
