Chris Ward, The Quick Way Down, Log Cabins, Hawaii
Chris Ward, The Quick Way Down, Log Cabins, Hawaii How d’ya reckon Chris Ward feels right now? Despite being known as a shining star of the 90s …Lost fish generation, Wardo also has Full Metal Jacket-style figs and ain’t afraid of the thicker juice. This graceful dive at Log Cabins was in the thick of the first decent swell the North Shore’s seen for a good fortnight. Wardo was barely rattled by this one, but his board didn’t shake off the tumbling so well. According to photog Damea Dorsey: “He came up in good condition, but his board slammed deck down on the reef and looked like it got beaten up with a 2×4. He grabbed another board and came back out.” It takes a lot to deter Chris Ward, and thanks to the unpredictability of his surfing, he’s exciting as hell to watch. In our latest issue, there’s a story on Wardo written by Matt Pruett, in which CJ Hobgood expresses his regret that Wardo ain’t on the tour anymore: “Point blank, Wardo was the last rock star we had on tour. The tour needs Wardo just like it needs Andy or Kelly. People were glued to see what he was gonna do next, in and out of the water. He was one of the best surfers at Tavarua hands down.” For more, go grab issue #45, out now.
