Where Is Our Mind? - Stab Mag

We changed the Stab in the Dark formula this year. Twelve boards sounds exciting in principle, but in person it’s a headache — like trying to pick a favorite child after a six-hour surf. So we stripped the chaos back. Instead of letting [mystery surfer] run wild, we set a schedule: four boards a day — one clear keeper, one clear dud, and two maybes. No more than a dozen waves per session. Enough to get a feel, not fall in love. It’s all part of making the test fairer, calmer, and a little more scientific. Less decision fatigue, more instruction. With that rhythm, we could run through every board in three days, one for repechage, and another for the final. A tighter process, a clearer headspace, and no wasted surfs.
