In 2019, Italo Ferreira won the World Title after defeating fellow contender Gabriel Medina in a heat at Pipeline. Discounting the Surf Ranch Pro, which featured a unique format, the WSL had to run 470 men's heats in order to declare Italo the champion that year. He surfed in less than 10% of them.
