WSL Concedes: “You Can Script This”
Everyone’s favorite quirky SUP-lord CEO has an announcement.
With crumbly windswell lapping at the cobbles of Punta Roca, the inaugural El Salvador CT event has yet to kick off. Here’s to hoping that the (once again) dismal forecast somehow overcomes expectations.
In the meantime – and on a separate front – the WSL have a new announcement. Reportedly, after a relatively successful first season of its introspective Apple TV+ show “Make Or Break” with Box to Box Films, and a second season in the works, the Wozzle are looking to expand their relationship with the production company.
The deal, according to the WSL’s press release, will give Box to Box “the exclusive, first-look opportunity to produce original unscripted and scripted projects from the five-decade archive of the world’s best surfing.”
Yep. You read correctly. You CAN script this.
Paul Martin, the Founder of Box To Box, had this to say:
“It’s been a phenomenal few years for the Box to Box Films team and we are thrilled at today’s announced partnership with the World Surf League,” said Martin. “This agreement represents an exciting new phase in our relationship with WSL. At Box to Box, we are passionate about telling stories of the world’s best athletes and in the last year we became obsessed with the world of surfing and the depth and breadth of the WSL stories and history. We believe there are some epic stories both historical and current which we are excited to bring to the world.”
There’s no doubting the talent of Mr. Martin and the crew at Box to Box as both storytellers and technical cinematographers, and while it may be easy to cringe at the idea of a scripted surfing drama, we’ll wait to see what they cook up before hurling any criticisms.
Maybe the tale of a certain Portuguese-speaking World Champion’s crippling addiction to the sweet purple juice of acai? Or a secret romance between a WSL judge and a reigning world champ? Strider as the ringleader of a secret Fijian kava cult?
The possibilities are truly endless.
