Where Will The Griffin/Kanoa Rivalry Go From Here?
A deeper dig into Griffin’s Bong-to-Quik leap in this week’s pod.
I was watching a surf edit in a café in Utah this week when a girl came up to me and asked if I’d heard about Griffin Colapinto changing sponsors.
Either Mormon girls love Griff, or this story is becoming quite ubiquitous. Since he was 12 years old, Griffin has not been seen without a Billabong sticker on the schnoz of his board. His move to Quiksilver this week not only marks a change in his history but in Quik’s as well, as the brand plans on “going back to surfing’s core”, with Griffin as their primary flag bearer.
The question is: what does Kanoa think about this? The long-time Quik poster-child has been with the company for 12 years. And historically he’s competed better than Griff. Is Kanoa excited for another brother-in-arms or a little perturbed by the rival from the other side of the 949? Mikey and Buck get into this and other topics in our little world in this week’s pod.
Here’s what else is on the menu this week in our sphere of surf:
— Griffin Cola’s signing with Quik (1:30)
— Episode 2 of Vans Stab High presented by Monster Energy (10:30)
— Are carbon boards taking over the world? (20:30)
— The biggest air ever landed? (31:00)
— Where are all the lefts, Erik? (37:00)
— And a phallic surf sin (41:00)
Pay close attention to the section on Stab High this week. Which surfer hated the new format and why? The pod takes an honest look at changes to this year’s Stab High and who was the most outspoken. No toxic positivity here.
