Watch The GOAT Blaze Guns With The Green Berets In Texas
(Un)surprisingly sharp.
For the fifth year running, the United States Army Special Forces—better known as the Green Berets—hosted their now-iconic Celebrity Tactical Challenge deep in the heart of Texas. Think of it as Hollywood meets high-stakes military drills, but instead of selfies and red carpets, it’s kevlar vests, speed holsters, and tactical shooting—in the name of charity.
This year’s lineup featured an unexpected yet fitting contender: 52-year-old, 11x World Champion Kelly Slater.
The event tasked participants with shooting a series of targets under strict time constraints and while adhering to safety protocols. To no one’s surprise, given Slater’s reputation for laser focus and adaptability, he performed exceptionally well. Out of all the targets in his course, he missed only the last—a challenging long-distance shot aimed at a small, human-shaped figure.
After his “heat,” Slater said:
“I’d say I’m new to shooting. I shot when I was a little kid, but I haven’t shot in decades. Yesterday was my first time shooting in a long, long time…maybe 20 or 30 years. I just gotta get familiar with the guns and the safeties. I don’t wanna go too fast and forget things. I’d rather be safe and have fun and try and run for time and be dangerous. It’s hard to take everything in when you’re a little bit nervous. I love to compete. You have to make it your natural environment in order to compete at your 100 percent capacity. When I surf, my brain is not in the way.”
