Watch: Seth Moniz And The 12x World Party Champ Demolish Dreamy Punta Roca
What the hell is torquenology?
A couple days ago we asked Doug Silva if he could explain his newest buzzword ‘torquenology’ to a five-year-old.
“It’s kinda like technology, but with torque,” he said. “So, we’re connecting our toes out to our fingers, and getting that lateral torque. We watch a lot of sprinters to see how they get their acceleration.”
For those of you who aren’t acquainted with Seth Moniz’s coach, Doug Silva, here are some stats:
– He’s the one in this clip wearing booties, a cuban link chain, an arm sleeve, and a squid lid.
– He rips.
– He’s got the best hair on the CT.
– He’s a true samurai of the English language

“I’m very blessed with incredible surfing skills and beautiful fundamentals. I still go 5,000 miles per hour, and I still have one of the best styles in the world, and perfect form, thanks to growing up with Kelly Slater, Tom Curren and Joel Parkinson,” says Doug. “We have this side body torque that no one seems to teach anymore. There’s a lot of coaches who don’t like me — which kinda isn’t my issue — but I still give them a lot of my students because some students are better off with coaches who have that micromanagement style.”
“Doug is literally endless energy and entertainment from 4am til we go to sleep,” laughs Cole Yamane, the talented filmmaker behind Hammah Time — who’s spending the year traveling with Seth and Doug.
