A lo-fi edit starring one of Australia’s most stylish young females in Sri Lanka and Snapper.

Coco Cairns is a 19-year-old Roxy-sponsored gal from Noosa who rides all kinds of boards gracefully and has a tasteful eye for art and curation—see @kikkifilms.

She spends much of her time bouncing between Noosa and Fingal, a 200-kilometer stretch of ruler-straight pointbreaks that offer endless opportunities for frontside arcs. Hers, in particular, has shades of Steph Gilmore—something best consumed slowly in Dan Scott’s trademark 120fps meditative surf reels.

Coco explained how she stitched this lo-fi edit together 30,000 feet in the air and titled it based on an inspiring bag of rice.

‘Rose Red Raw Rice’ is a little clip I put together from two sessions—one in Sri Lanka, where I recently traveled with my dad, and the other from a surf at Snapper that had been sitting on my desktop for too long.

I actually had a different name in mind until I was about to upload the edit and noticed a rice bag from Sri Lanka hanging in my house. The print read Rose Red Raw Rice. That’ll do for a title I figured.

Sri Lanka was short and sweet, with plenty of near-death experiences navigating traffic, followed by a surf at Lazy Lefts—a backpacker’s special. The second half of the clip captures a familiar kind of day at Snapper with Dan Scott.

More than the surfing being five-star, I just enjoyed having something to work on while passing the time on the flight home.”
