Watch: Clay Marzo And Ian Crane’s Complementary Indonesian Elegance
Comparing and contrasting two universally adored goofs.
“He’s so mysterious,” Ian Crane says, regarding Clay Marzo. “He’s like a mythical creature, seeing him in the wild is almost too much to handle.”
For everything the two blonde-mopped goofs share in style, stance, and cultural adoration, Ian and Clay have vastly contrasting personalities.
Notoriously asocial, Clay Marzo’s talents border on the shamanic, with the 34-year old typically preferring surf solitude — so much so that he’ll risk dire reef consequences to find it.
“He hates crowds, but if it’s uncrowded he’s so psyched,” Ian tells me. “That wave, for instance, you don’t surf it at low tide, but he surfs it anyway just to get away from the crowds — and he turns it into a low tide wave because he’s so fucking good.”
Crane, on the other hand, is a camera-comfortable extrovert, often caught grinning, laughing through conversations, and, sometimes, getting naked to win Stab Highway.
