“There’s Something So Satisfying About Big Turns And Heavy Metal”
Same stripes, different Margo.
You can’t outrun your genes. No matter how far you try to separate yourself from where you came, you are what you are. Dirt that’s risen, born from the bloodline of your parents. Some traits, you welcome. Others, you wish you could bury.
The genetic lottery seems to be playing out just fine for Micah Margieson. As the spawn of Brenden ‘Margo’ Margieson, his ability to divide water is bred in the bone. A month ago, he joined his old man on the Album squad.
“I’ve got a few trips planned with my dad. We’re going to chat about boards, surf together, and add more of a storytelling element than your typical surf clip,” says Micah. “When you think of Album, you picture it being full of alt-guys. I’m still frothing to keep riding thrusters, but the last batch of boards I got from Album had a bunch of twins, quads, and other different shapes, and only one thruster. It’s gonna be cool to find some love in something I’m not completely used to.”
Since signing with Album, Micah’s been airing out the archives to make room for a new chapter. What’s left behind, as you can see in the clip above, is a raw collection of blood-on-fire Indo footage from earlier this year, accompanied by some doom metal.
“For me, when I watch a clip of someone ripping to heavy music, it just makes sense,” shares Micah. “I’ve never been much of an air guy—it’s probably in my genes. But there’s something so satisfying about doing a big turn and then having heavy drums and guitar kick in together. That really fires me up.”
Watch Micah unleash hell on the Bells Bowl, riding his old man’s Maurice Cole, here. And, to remind yourself where he gets his fire, consider revisiting our chat with the OG Margo.
