The Drop: U.S. Customs vs. Noa Deane
Noa outlines his battle with bureaucracy in this week’s Pod.
Noa Deane is not a CBD user.
That did not, however, pacify the concerns of one ruffled Customs officer who took one look at the shaggy haired Aussie and assumed he was smuggling in some “CBD roll-ons” which are… legal anyways. The officer’s second moral concern regarding Mr. Deane? His infamous “Fuck The WSL” statement at the 2014 Surfer Poll Awards.
Because of Noa’s “dubious” aura (he was coming off an all-night New Years bender) — and some bureaucratic visa complications — he was not permitted to enter the state of Hawaii and was unable to compete in the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout which he was invited to.
In this week’s The Drop podcast, Mikey and Buck feature audio from Stab’s interview with Noa about “Nozvid” that lend more context to the claymation scene in the film. They also go over the unusual waves Noa finds and surfs in the movie, begging the question: Are slabs the most overlooked area of progression in surfing?
The Pod also goes over: Heat draws for the Vans Pipe Masters, two new SEOTY entries, two new Stab Premium films (including an interview with the director, Cori Stephens), and all the relevant surf news your mind can handle.
Peruse the Pod wherever The Drop finds you (Apple, Spotify, Soundcloud).
