Surfline Called This The Best Ever Dawn-To-Dusk Paddle Day At Mavs

Can you blame them?

The same storm that provided stellar waves for the opening days of Honolua, the Pipe Invitational, and the Pipe Masters, was actually better directed toward California. Far be it from us to explain how swells work in the ocean, but we do know that if Jaws doesn’t (really) break and Maverick’s was—according to industry-leading surf forecasting site, Surfline—”arguably the best dawn-to-dusk paddle day ever,” then it was probably an unusual storm track.

Just a taste. Video: Surfline

And Surfline’s claim wasn’t just a hyperbolic whim. As if the 40-50 faces and all-day offshores weren’t enough to convince us, Surfline consulted Grant Washburn before typing the fateful words “best” and “ever”. For those who aren’t familiar with Grant, he’s “been keeping a daily journal of Maverick’s sessions for almost 30 years,” making his opinion better than most.

Though there is a part of us that wonders what Jeff Clark would say…
