Recently, Stab predicted that Rip Curl would make a concerted effort to return to the core — though we weren’t sure exactly how it would look. And, that’s how it seems to be playing out. The move towards Steph highlights Rip Curl’s return to their roots, namely, a renewed kickstart of The Search, one of their longest standing and most successful properties. Earlier this week, we shared the rumor that 8x World Champion Stephanie Gilmore would be leaving her 13-year sponsorship with Roxy and returning to her former partner, Rip Curl.

This morning, both parties have confirmed this rumor, announcing their newfound matrimony — and Steph’s inevitable participation in The Search.

“I need to stay curious to what else can be achieved, especially the moments that aren’t defined by trophies,” says Steph. “Those places, those trips, the people you meet, the waves you find. it’s those things that stay in your mind forever and you continue searching to get back to that feeling.

“I feel like the luckiest person in the world for the opportunity to continue my search with Rip Curl”

The promise is an obvious and exciting one: With Steph now having a more open schedule off-tour, we’ll be afforded the opportunity to see her in some seldom-surfed, world class waves through the lens of filmmaker Vaughan Blakey. It’s a pretty solid recipe for success.

We’ll have a full deep-dive on the deal coming in a few days. For now, read all of the background information on the deal here.
