Stab High Bottle Rocket Champ Wins 2024 Rip Curl GromSearch
Lucas Cassity adds another chlorine-based title to his resume.
Palm Springs, California. 350 days of sunshine every year. Famous for hot springs, golf courses, and martinis. Now, also famous for surfing.
Last week, the Palm Springs Surf Club hosted the 2024 Rip Curl GromSearch National Final. The best pint-sized surfers in the U.S. went head-to-head, slinging airs under the desert sun
Four divisions. Four champions. Eden Walla snagged the U/16 girls’ title, while Lucas Cassity — known globally for being the world’s first Stab High Bottle Rockets champ — added the Boys Under-16 crown to his expanding trophy case. Walla (fantastic nickname) also scored the Lost Surfboards Highest Single Wave. Beckham McCart snatched Banzai Bowls Best Air, and Brodi Buck walked away with the Soft Tech Surfboards Expression Session win. More sponsors than a CT event.
Surprisingly, over 25,000 viewers tuned into the live stream. Is the true audience for surfing in tiny hellions in Palm Springs? Probably not, but you should decide for yourself. The 10-hour-long replay’s still spinning on YouTube.
Walla and Cassity will compete for the International GromSearch crown in Bali from November 13 to 17, judged by Steph Gilmore, Gabriel Medina, and Mason Ho.
