Southern Portugal Isn’t Just Big Cliffs And Salted Cod
Nic Von Rupp and a few locals remind us of the Algarve’s other resource
Does Nic Von Rupp work for Visit Portugal? If not, he should. The last few videos he’s pumped out have been very compelling reflections of a country that has just recently burst into the world surf tourism spotlight.
This week, we’ve got a few crystalline wedges in Sagres, the lovely locale situated in Portugal’s southern Algarve region. Known better for its cliffside fortresses and seafood than for its bathymetry, Sagres can evidently still dish out some conical vish on the right swell angle.
Of course, Hurley’s Portuguese playboy knows the right swell angle — or at least knows the locals — and scores some triangular teepees in both directions.
The edit is an aquatic tour of the Algarve region, with some very good surfers as your guides.
We’re planning our trip soon, just waiting for an email back from Nic regarding which swell angle is best.
