Ozzy Osbourne Wants No More Tears At Pipeline
The best (unofficial) hype reel for the Vans Pipe Masters.
Christmas decor, dropping temperatures, Starbucks holiday cups and A+ North Shore footage. Yup, winter is definitely here.
Oahu’s North Shore was cooking last week, and Pipeline had arguably the best day of the 2022-23 winter thus far, with 10-12 foot first reefers and the occasional wash-throughs. Thick barrels were met with a thicker crowd, and you can guess the results.
However, unpacking the good, the bad and the ugly from crowded Pipeline is like chatting with estranged aunts and uncles during the holidays. It’s difficult to know where to begin.
Fortunately for us hungry viewers, ace drone pilot Tucker Wooding expertly curated the above highlights, incorporating water shots from Tomo McPherson and Peter King. If there was a swim race that required swimmers to hold heavy water housings and cameras, these guys would have to be among the favorites. Marc Chambers also chips in a good land angle.
The day also provided a warm-up for some surfers invited to the upcoming Vans Pipe Masters (the waiting period starts December 8) and the lineup featured a few heavyweights (and potential matchups) including Noah Beschen, Billy Kemper, Balaram Stack, Noa Deane, Mason Ho, Barron Mamiya, Jamie O’Brien, Josh Moniz, Shayden Paccaro and Griffin Colapinto.
But when Pipeline is serving meat like this, there’s plenty on the platter to go around. Tucker’s eye in the sky also captures some lesser-known surfers showing equally impressive performances as the top pros. Two notable moments you should rewatch: North Shore hellman Joey Johnston’s airdrop at 1:28, and father and son Takayuki and Taichi Wakita get some quality family bonding time at 5:40.
Pipeline is back. And so is this banger from Ozzy Osbourne. Enjoy both in the vid above.
