Remember homemade videos before TikTok?

There used to be a reality show on cable (remember that?) that would award prizes for funny and wacky videos filmed on camcorders, called America’s Funniest Home Videos. The clips usually featured wholesome families and silly children, generally just good-natured monkey business paired with cringe-worthy commentary.

Here, Maui’s Cody Young shows us what the modern home video looks like for the modern pro surfer. Instead of shelling out cash for an editor and personal filmer, Cody balled out on a budget and got the clips together himself. After reaching out to filmers, compiling, and editing a season’s worth of footage solo, Cody’s reel shows that he took full advantage of the most consistent two-month stretch at Pipeline and tore the shit out of the best wave on his home island (for those with standard-order testicles), Honolua Bay.

Those two waves alone require two different approaches and equipment (guess where he wears a helmet), but Cody didn’t bat an eye. Instead, he grabbed the appropriately sized and fine-tuned Sharp Eyes and went to work. No monkey business here, and certainly no cringe-worthy commentary.
